We’re blessed at Big Belly to be in one of the BEST cities in the world for comedy. London is a hub of comedic talent and home to some of the worlds best comedians and worlds best comedy clubs.

But the UK is blessed with some truly incredible comedy clubs outside of London and here we’re going to let you know exactly where to go to see the best talent outside of London

Scotland

Home to Edinburgh and of course the world famous Edinburgh fringe festival, Scotland has a rich history of comedy including gracing the world with legends such as Billy Connolly and Frankie Boyle. Because of this there are a wealth of amazing comedy clubs to choose from and, The Stand Comedy Club with venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow is one of the best!

Many comedy greats describe it as the “perfect room for comedy”, the community they have is incredible! Their world famous “Red Raw” nights are also widely regarded as one of the best places to discover new comedians and for those comedians to grow and progress in comedy.

If you’re in Edinburgh be sure not to miss Monkey Barrel Comedy too! They’ve been going since 2017 and have fast become one of THE places to see comedy in Edinburgh.

If you’re in Glasgow, as well as the stand be sure to check out The Rotunda a truly special venue where comics such as Adam Greene have shot their specials. It’s intimate and the atmosphere is always next level!

Wales

The UK really is stooped in rich comedic history pretty much everywhere you go and Wales is no exception! Dawn French, Rhod Gilbert and Rob Brydon are just a few of the incredible talents to come out of the land of castles, and again you’ll be spoilt for choice for comedy clubs! In our eyes though The Glee Club Cardiff is the place to be to catch some truly exceptional comedy in Wales.

Every single one of the Glee Clubs venues is a special place where the comedy is as bold as the staging, this is a place to see comedic juggernauts in their prime with shows that are absolutely stacked every single week!

Manchester

Home to an incredible comedy circuit and has provided us with such greats such as Jason Manford and Alan Carr. Manchester is a phenomenal place and home to a phenomenal comedy club in the Frog and Bucket!

Another place that attracts the best talent in the north and nurtures new comedians with their Beat the Frog shows, another incredible open mic/gong show that offers true progression!

Liverpool

Liverpool is a special city, and to be honest picking the best comedy club in Liverpool was easy as it’s home to a special place in Hot Water Comedy Club.

One of the things that makes Liverpool so special is the community and the people and Hot Water is a fine example of that, home to not just some of the nicest people in comedy but also some of the funniest. Paul Smith is now a cult legend, not just in Liverpool but across the globe because of the jokes he tells out of hot water. They’re also changing the game with their membership options and are expanding soon so an already great club is about to become even greater.

Birmingham

If it wasn’t already on our list, the glee club would feature here again as their Birmingham venue is another incredible club and a must visit if you’re in the area. But we can’t have two Glee clubs on the list so we’re going to go with another club with several venues across the country in Just the Tonic.
Their Birmingham venue is based out of Rosies Nightclub and is able to attract some of the biggest names in comedy that make for truly incredible shows!

Newcastle

I know we said we couldn’t have two Glee clubs on this list! And we can’t! But for Newcastle, we might bend the rules a little bit and have two of The Stand’s venues. Yep, The Stand have migrated north of the border and the result is their fantastic Newcastle venue. A city with another rich history in comedy, bringing us Sarah Millican, Ross Noble and more, it’s only  right they have a club as stooped in history as The Stand too!

Brighton

One of the UKs most vibrant cities, Brighton has a rich culture and Komedia is a venue that exemplifies that! Another venue that balances bringing you the best in stand up with nurturing upcoming talent. Their new act competition is the stuff of legend and has helped launch many careers.

The Forge Comedy Club in Brighton is another venue not to miss! It’s a favourite spot to Pro’s such as Romesh Ranganathan, Sara Pascoe, and Stephen K Amos! You’re always guaranteed a good night and you never know who’s going to drop in.
