Brady co-hosts the BBC podcast “Wheel of Misfortune,” and her memoir “Strong Female Character” released in 2023. Fern Marie Brady, born on May 26, 1986, is a remarkable Scottish comedian, podcaster, and writer. Starting her journey as a journalist, Fern found her true calling in the world of stand-up comedy. Through her exceptional talent and participation in renowned competitions like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, she rose to fame as a stand-up sensation. This fame led her to appearances on notable comedy panel shows, including the well-known 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Discovering Laughter: Comedy Unleashed

Fern’s journey into comedy was nothing short of captivating. Her early recognition came through “So You Think You’re Funny” at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where she secured a joint third place. Her charisma and wit also earned her spots in the finals of the Piccadilly Comedy Club new act competition in 2012 and the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year in 2013. Her comedic prowess graced shows like Seann Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular, Live at the Apollo, and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, leaving audiences in stitches.

From Stripes to Spotlight: A Unique Path

Brady’s journey began in Bathgate, West Lothian, where she grew up. Her Irish roots and upbringing within the Catholic Church in Scotland shaped her perspective. She made a name for herself at the University of Edinburgh as the editor of The Student, a weekly student-produced newspaper. Juggling studies and financing, she worked as a stripper to support herself.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Arabic and Islamic History, Fern’s journalistic aspirations gave way to her true passion for stand-up comedy. An internship at Fest Magazine in 2009 ignited her comedic spark. The experience of writing about a comedy critic attempting stand-up provided the “push she needed” to embrace comedy fully. Her debut as a professional stand-up comic took place in May 2010.

Diverse Ventures: Beyond the Stage

Fern’s talents extend beyond the spotlight. She co-created the podcast “Wheel of Misfortune” with fellow comedian Alison Spittle in 2020. Her authenticity shines as she co-presented the travelogue “British as Folk” and embarked on a 25-date tour of her show “Autistic Bikini Queen” in 2022.

Her journey took an exciting turn as she joined the 14th series of Taskmaster in 2022, showcasing her versatility and humor on the TV show.

Strong and Unfiltered: A Memoir Unveiled

In 2023, Fern unveiled her memoir “Strong Female Character,” providing insights into her journey and experiences. Her authentic voice resonates as she shares her story, reflecting her unique perspective and unapologetic approach to life.
