TV presenter, artist, and comedian Joe Lycett is known for his antics online with his infamous pranks but this time he managed to prank the media with 4 fake news articles that actually caught traction with media outlets!

1st. Footballer With a Bruise That Looks Like Prince Harry

According to the Dailymail, Footballer Adam Price, was playing a casual and friendly game in Birmingham where he went for a 50/50 ball with the goalkeeper but instead was knocked down.

Price checked for the “pain” and saw that he was greeted by a familiar face. He says the face looks kind of like Prince Harry, with his hair on top, eyes and nose in the middle, and lastly his own beard at the bottom.

2. ‘H’ From the UK Pop Group ‘Steps’ is Getting His Own Statue

I mean, we couldn’t exactly fault anyone for falling this, because H himself was in on the joke! He posted on his own Instagram that he was incredibly grateful for the 8ft statue being made and displayed in his own hometown.

Outlets like Sky News reported that the statue would be unveiled during Cowbridge Pride in June, which H founded two years ago. And as an extra precaution Cultural Cowbridge announced the news on April 3 a few days after April Fool’s Day.

3. Research That Birmingham Has the Most Well-Endowed Men

A man measures his waist with a blue tape measure, focusing on the tape scale, against a pink background.

If you’re wondering ‘Why Birmingham?’ Well, that’s Lycett’s hometown! It was picked up by outlets like Dailystar where the ‘company’ Spartan Layers, a company that sells top-shelf men’s underwear, conducted a study that apparently the blokes at Birmingham don’t have to ask whether or not size matters.

The claim was that they asked customers “details” to ensure quality control and improve their products. The ‘Study’ had 1,100 participants and revealed that the average size of their manhood is 6.9 inches. Beating out Leeds (6.8), Leicester (6.5), Glasgow (6.2), Sunderland (6).

Aside from that there’s a lot of statistics said like does being chilly affect size, how the people from Birmingham rate their own manhoods, and even a quote from the CEO that they’ll be conducting the study annually.

4. A New Banksy Art in Birmingham

Street art of a dancing girl with a flying umbrella on a teal-colored building wall, with an overcast sky and a street view.

Banksy is a hot topic in Birmingham since the artist only has 1 mural present in the city and it was back in 2019 at the Jewellery Quarter. So, imagine everyone’s surprise when a new mural was suddenly discovered on the side of Sidewalk Bar on Kent Street.

It was art of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, reaching for red slippers that were hanging from an electric cable. Critics say that it has “all the hallmarks of Banksy while the director of the bar says that the mural was probably done overnight since the art wasn’t there when the manager was locking up for the night.

It was a bit harder for this to convince some people because Banksy has a lot of eagle-eyed fans that outright claim that it wasn’t Banksy’s work but nonetheless the story was picked up by major news outlets and even printed on newspaper.

First Off, Why?

Well, Lycett is no stranger to pulling pranks online as he has pulled off a lot of pranks over the years. Last year he apparently shredded £10,000 to protest David Beckham’s role at Qatar, saying that if Beckham doesn’t pull-away from Qatar, he would shred all the money he intends to donate to LGBTQ+ charities.

He later revealed that the money was fake and he already donated it to those charities regardless of what Beckham’s decision would be. Later this year he was seen “dumping” toxic waste into a river but it was all a publicity stunt to promote his documentary Joe Lycett vs. Sewage to highlight Britain’s sewage system.

When the curtain rised and Lycett revealed it was all fake news, H from the pop group Steps says it was a way for them to distract from the damaging fake news stories being made daily, and shine a spotlight to as he says “keyboard warriors” saying that they should react strongly to support huge issues instead of complaining about a new statue.
