Renowned comedian, explorer, palaeoanthropologist, and evolutionary biologist Ella Al-Shamahi has taken on the role of co-host for the BBC World Service programme, The Conversation.

New Hosts for The Conversation

Al-Shamahi, alongside investigative journalist Datshiane Navanayagam, now leads the weekly series dedicated to highlighting remarkable women from across the globe.

Expressing her excitement, Al-Shamahi shared,

To be asked to host and facilitate these conversations is incredible and to be around so many amazing women – what a dream. For over 20 years I’ve been fascinated with this interview style and now, to be doing The Conversation with the one and only BBC World Service – pinch me.

The Evolution of The Conversation

The Conversation, which has been on air for a decade, was previously hosted by Kim Chakanetsa until earlier this year. Since then, the show has featured various guest presenters.

Gwenan Roberts, commissioning editor for the BBC World Service, stated,

The Conversation has grown a trusted reputation for bringing listeners the voices of inspiring women doing extraordinary things in different parts of the world. The series continues with this fantastic presenting duo; we are so pleased to have Ella and Datshiane on board.

Al-Shamahi’s Upcoming Projects

In addition to her role on The Conversation, Al-Shamahi is set to host “Human,” a five-part series by BBC Studios and PBS in America, exploring the origins of modern humans. The show is scheduled to air next year.

Listeners can catch The Conversation every Monday on BBC World Service and various podcast platforms, including BBC Sounds.
