Comedian Ashley Frieze embarked on an unexpected journey in music production, spurred by the discovery of Udio.com. His plan to release a comedy album this year took a sudden turn when he delved into the capabilities of AI writing partners, resulting in the creation of a 24-track album titled “Monkey Paw Cowboy,” under the alias The Incredible Jukebox.

The Unexpected Inspiration

A man with a microphone speaks before an audience in a cozy room, a black speaker beside him and a humorous sign saying "late stage comedy" visible in the background.

Frieze, intrigued by the possibilities offered by Udio.com, found himself drawn into a whirlwind of creativity. He admitted that,

Once I’d started playing with the tool and seeing what it could do, I think the album was inevitable.

Despite his initial unfamiliarity with country music, Frieze found the genre to be a perfect fit for his comedy songs. He described the AI’s delivery of comedic lines as “tragically and naively earnest,” lending an unexpected charm to the project.

An Experiment in Writing

“Monkey Paw Cowboy” offers a diverse lineup of songs, ranging from parodies of existing hits to character pieces and standalone comedy tracks.

Though Frieze says it was all just an experiment in seeing the capabilities of AI he mined his notebooks for ideas, to come up with the best prompts and jokes.

Writing with an AI requires several iterations of redrafts and re-generations.

Overall, Frieze is happy with the project and says that it yielded surprisingly good results and is sure to make people laugh whether or not you’re a fan of country music or not.

The album is now available on various streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Amazon. We’ve got you covered on ALL things comedy even music!
