The list is curated by a dedicated team, recognizing individuals from various sectors, including climate activism, healthcare, and diplomacy. TIME continues to evolve its approach, expanding its recognition to include new categories like AI and climate leadership, reflecting the diverse array of global influencers shaping our world.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, celebrated writer and actress, pens a heartfelt tribute to Edelman, lauding his extraordinary talent and impact on audiences. She applauds his ability to seamlessly blend sharp wit with profound observations in his performances.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of watching Alex Edelman consistently dazzle audiences in basement clubs, backs of taxis, comedy festivals, friends’ kitchens, and iconic London theatres.

Edelman’s Response

In response to the award, Edelman expresses gratitude to Waller-Bridge, affectionately declaring his love for her and joking about getting a back tattoo of her.

Thank you Phoebe I love you I’m getting a back tattoo of you. As honoured as I am undeserving. Long live print journalism.

Originally hailing from Massachusetts, Edelman made his mark on the UK comedy circuit, earning recognition such as Best Newcomer at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

His latest stand-up show, “Just For Us,” garnered widespread acclaim, culminating in a successful Broadway run and an HBO special (You can read more about it HERE!)

The list also features actress/comedian Maya Rudolph, nominated by Amy Poehler, who commends Rudolph’s comedic brilliance and ability to evoke both laughter and emotion.

Her work is described by Time Magazine to be a reminder that we shouldn’t take ourselves and our lives too seriously. Time says that,

She gives to us over and over again. We should count ourselves lucky that we get to live in a world where the hilarious California mama named Maya Rudolph is here to soothe our pain.
