My Pick of the Best Pubs and Bars in Angel

The Alma

The alma in london.

One of the best bars in Islington with a long list of craft beers and super helpful staff to help you navigate that list. Aside from being helpful the people there are also super laid-back and have no problems with you taking in food from the best restaurants in the market and bringing it there so if you’re looking for the ideal drinking and dining spot in Angel, then look no further!

There drinks menu are also very reasonably priced, in fact, their wine list a lot cheaper compared to other pubs in the area’s market so it’s a great drinking den for those who don’t want to break the bank.

📍77-78 Chapel Market, London N1 9EX, United Kingdom

The Three Johns

A restaurant with tables and chairs and a sign on the wall.

Literally a short walk away from Angel station is a homely bar called The Three Johns. Stepping inside, you’ll find that this Islington Pub is actually massive on the inside. Since it’s a big place, it only means that this bar and kitchen is perfect for events!

Last time we were here, we actually booked the joint for a small private celebration and it didn’t disappoint. Aside from London Craft beer, there’s also an extensive cocktail list for everyone to enjoy. Just a tip though, the restaurant actually closes a bit early during weekdays so remember to order your pub grub before 10 PM so you won’t be like us where we had rushed to order glasses of classic cocktails without even glancing at the food menu.

The Castle

The Castle is a bright, airy pub with a decked roof terrace, bright fabrics, and vintage accents. They also offer bottomless brunches because they know how much locals love to come back for their expertly crafted London cocktails.

The roof garden is also stunning, let me tell you, happy hour get a little bit happier when you’re treated to a nice view of North London while also sipping on tasty cocktails made by their talented mixologists and staff. One of the best pubs in Islington and Angel for a relaxing pitstop and I definitely recommend this place for a quick boozer or just for a few pints.

📍54 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9HF, United Kingdom

The Islington Town House

A group of people walking past a building with a sign that says the islington.

One of the best places to drink would be the Islington Town house, because while other bars focus on their drinks, this spot mainly highlights their bar snacks and grub! Not that their drinks aren’t amazing, because they are, the food here is simply a masterclass in classic pub food.

It’s also a multi themed bar and is spread across three floors, with one area for private hire, so you could only imagine how extensive their cocktail menu is. From experimental cocktails all the way to the classic rum-based cocktails. Definitely worth a visit as it’s a favourite among locals not just in the neighbourhood but all across the London area.

Be At One – Islington

Beat one cocktail bar in london.

Tucked away London’s bar scene is a simple unpretentious neighbourhood bar that serve classic Italian fare to go along with a fun night out! They’ve got DJs, 2 for 1 cocktails, and a quirky decor that practically guarantee a fun night out!

This spot is also one of the reasons I took an interest into Islington’s nightlife scene because normally we visited Shoreditch to tipple but by chance, we stumbled onto this lively and cosy bar. I love the energy here from both the customers and staff and you could see how much they like the place.

The York

Islington is one of those places in London where almost every building has a nice interesting piece of history to it and The York in Angel is one example of that. Formerly known as The York Hotel, and was actually surrounded by fields in 1851 it’s now known to be one of the premier spots for a few after-work drinkers.

A decent assortment of beers, lagers, and ales are available on tap at the main pub. Usually full, with fewer seats indoors than outside so if you’re not in the mood to just lounge around outside and do some people-watching then it’s best to get here early at night.

📍82 Islington High St, Greater, London N1 8EQ, United Kingdom

The Angelic

A restaurant with a painted ceiling and windows.

Our first experience here we were very impressed with their Sunday Roasts so we had the grand idea of coming back during nighttime to try out their drinks on their cocktail bar, and they did not disappoint! The Angelic is a well-liked destination for both locals and tourists because of its mouthwatering cuisine, attentive service, and chic ambiance.

The gravy they use for their Sunday roasts is simply divine and well worth the trip to Islington!

📍57 Liverpool Rd, London N1 0RJ, United Kingdom

The Steam Passage

Steam passage tavern, london.

The highlight for this pub is that you’re able to watch all the live football matches in Islington upper street with a great drink in hand. It seems like this pub is tailored towards football fans, or any sports fan in general because of the huge amount of TVs that fill the joint and the super affordable discounts and rates they have.

However, the real kicker here is that you could watch your favourite matches in peace! I know that it’s sometimes better to have a few friends around and fans around to make the atmosphere more hyped but sometimes I just love to hang around here in peace and quiet, especially if my team’s losing and we’re losing a bet.

📍45 Upper St, London N1 0PN, United Kingdom

Flight Club Islington

The interior of a bar with many stools and tables.

Islington’s Flight Club delivers exactly what it promises. A great spot to relax, laugh, and play darts if you’d like. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, the design is extremely distinctive, the live music is energetic and loud, the staff is courteous, and the drinks are excellent.

I suggest the pepperoni pizza, which has a drizzle of honey on top which is perfect for groups. Bringing a bunch of friends with you completely elevate the experience so I highly recommend it!

📍56 Upper St, London N1 0NY, United Kingdom

Little Bat

The interior of a restaurant with wooden tables and chairs.

I was taken aback by the music, this place made me think of those sultry, low-key cocktail bars with great music from the 1990s to 2000s that you can find all over the borough. Very good cocktails; my personal favorite was the Hot or Not.

Excellent ambiance as well—buzzing but not too loud for conversation! Even as things got busier later in the evening, the service remained excellent. A great place to grab drinks after dinner on Upper Street or for some drinks after a hard day’s work.
