Frank Skinner

After a stint on unemployment benefit, Frank Skinner ventured into stand-up comedy in 1987. His career took off, winning the prestigious Perrier Award in 1991.

He’s since become a household name, co-writing and starring in hit shows like Fantasy Football League and Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned.

Early Life and Beginnings

After graduating, Frank Skinner spent three-and-a-half years on unemployment benefit before landing a job as a lecturer in English at Halesowen College. In 1987, he dipped his toes into the world of stand-up comedy, making his debut on the stage and television soon after.

Rise to Fame

In 1991, Skinner clinched the prestigious Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, catapulting him into the limelight. He collaborated with David Baddiel on various successful projects, including the hit show Fantasy Football League and the iconic football anthem “Three Lions.”

Television and Beyond

Skinner’s television career soared with shows like Packet of Three and his own chat show on BBC One. Despite a brief hiatus, he returned to television and embraced stand-up comedy once more, captivating audiences with his wit and charm.

Radio and Podcasting

Skinner ventured into radio, hosting the Saturday Morning Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio, which garnered immense popularity. He later delved into podcasting with Frank Skinner’s Poetry Podcast, showcasing his passion for literature.

Recognition and Honours

In 2023, Skinner was honoured with an MBE for his contributions to entertainment. His enduring legacy was further cemented with his participation in charitable events like “A Show for Gareth Richards” at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
