Political comedian Matt Forde has announced his comeback to the stand-up scene, following a challenging battle with cancer. Forde is set to perform a series of gigs at London’s Soho Theatre, followed by a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Comeback Journey

Forde’s return to live comedy comes after undergoing surgery to remove the base of his spine due to cancer. He will kick off his comeback with five work-in-progress shows at the Soho Theatre, paving the way for his anticipated appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

In a statement, Forde expressed his excitement about returning to the Edinburgh Fringe, despite the festival being where he first experienced symptoms leading to his cancer diagnosis. He shared,

After my final show there, I was told I had cancer. Instead of going on tour, I was being carved open to have the base of my spine removed.

Finding Humor in Adversity

Forde is foremost a comedian, and like any comedian he faced with adversity he had a few jokes and quips ready. Now he’s determined to make a return to the stage, with walking sticks by his side.

Now I know how turkeys feel. And it was in the run-up to Christmas… When I was laid in that hospital bed in excruciating pain, the only thought on my mind was ‘at least I’ll get a show out of this’.

The Tour

Forde resumed his role as co-presenter of Rock ‘N’ Roll Football on Absolute Radio earlier this year. Additionally, he continued hosting his podcasts, British Scandal and Political Party.

Forde’s comeback will culminate in his End of An Era Tour at the Pleasance Beyond venue during the Edinburgh Fringe. The tour coincides with the US and UK elections with tickets to go on sale May 9.

Still a few days to go till May 9 so if you’re looking to warm-up your funny bones, then head on over to Big Belly Comedy Club where we’ve got a bunch of great comedy shows lined-up for you every night!
