In an unexpected turn of events, Colin Thompson, the man who was working under Kast Media and with Theo Von, is accused of orchestrating a fraud operation that cost Theo Von’s podcast, “This Past Weekend,” and potentially other podcasts, an estimated $4 million.
Theo Von and his crew detected inconsistencies in their payments, which is when trouble started. Advertisers allegedly paid Colin Thompson and Kast Media directly, leaving Theo Von with less money than anticipated.
A new company called “Podcast One” was about to go public, and Colin Thompson again approached Theo Von with a proposal to join it despite complaints from Theo Von’s crew that their were discrepancies in their payments. Thompson hoped to use Theo Von’s podcast, along with others, to increase the stock prices of the enterprise before they officially went live.
Under the proposed deal, Podcast One would compensate Theo Von in stock rather than traditional currency, a decision that left Theo Von visibly angered.
Theo Von didn’t mince words when he said,
“You F-cked with the wrong Rat Buddy,”
in reference to Colin Thompson, on his show. Theo Von’s unvarnished response illustrates his desire to make known alleged unethical acts in the podcasting industry.
Theo Von wants to educate people about the risks associated with such methods, thus despite any pressures to comply, “This Past Weekend” continues to speak out about the alleged wrongdoing.
